An Irish Lass in Summer

My 2nd portrait of Kathleen. This one took me more time than most of my previous pieces, but I liked working in this size. One of my challenges with this one was getting the light on the bark of the tree so that it kept its round shape, while still being out of focus so as not to take away from the subject. Her eyes are very close to their natural color but exaggerated for effect - and her hair really seemed to be on fire in the bright sunlight. The little blade of grass is there to hint at the feeling of summer. This was my first piece to be accepted into an International Exhibition - for the 17th Annual CPSA Exhibition in Atlanta, GA!
